A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions.

Although mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). These were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into a wristwatch, and can be powered by a watch battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". The embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are however the most numerous.

The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile, distinguishing them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore computers ranging from a mobile phone to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks, given enough time and storage capacity.

How do I add more computers to a wireless network?
Q. I have recently moved home to my parents, and can no longer connect to their wireless network. There is a box saying 'attempting to connect' or something, and then I get an error message. I think the problem might be that my sister has got a laptop since I have been away, and so there are currently 4 computers connected to the network. I heard that some networks automatically set a limit of 4 client PCs, so how do I increase this? I think I read something about logging into a router, but cant remember anything more. Incidentally, the wireless box is not physically connected to any of the computers. Hope you guys can help, thanks!

A. your wireless card should scan for a network to connect to you should be able to connect to it then. Find your internet connection and click on it, see what options you have. If you want to clear the list of computers in the DHCP list, which is the deal that automatically gives out ip addresses, just, restart the router that should do it. Then try to connect again. If the number is limited to 4 and your sis ain't around right now, you can take her spot.

How to monitor computers using my wireless internet?
Q. I need to see which computers are using my wireless internet, from my router, and what sites they are going to and when. Please help thanks!

A. The easiest way to see which computers are on your network is to view your routers page in you browser. Try typing into your address bar, that should take you to the configuration page for your router (if not check the manual to see if there is a different URL you should use) . Once on that page look for something about DHCP, and look for a list of computers, it might say something like "DHCP Reservation" or similar. The list should show the computer name, IP address, MAC address, etc The other part of your question is a bit more difficult. In order to monitor usage, you need a spy program to detect the traffic, also known as a "Packet Sniffer" is to detect what the individual computers are up to. Many of these programs are… [cont.]
