Nounproject (plural projects)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A project in business and science is a collaborative enterprise, frequently involving research or design, that is carefully planned to achieve a particular aim. OverviewThe word project comes from the Latin word projectum from the Latin verb proicere, "to throw something forwards" which in turn comes from pro-, which denotes something that precedes the action of the next part of the word in time (paralleling the Greek πρό) and iacere, "to throw". The word "project" thus actually originally meant "something that comes before anything else happens". When the English language initially adopted the word, it referred to a plan of something, not to the act of actually carrying this plan out. Something performed in accordance with a project became known as an "object". Specific usesSchool and universityAt school, educational institute and university, a project is a research assignment given to a student which generally requires a larger amount of effort and more independent work than is involved in a normal essay assignment. It requires students to undertake their own fact-finding and analysis, either from library/internet research or from gathering data empirically. The written report that comes from the project is usually in the form of a dissertation, which will contain sections on the project's inception, methods of inquiry, analysis, findings and conclusions. Get everybody together - look at the task at hand - have a few at the local pub and talk shop - Break down any beariors that might hinder working together - Get people working together and doing what each person does best - Once the project is underway then keep it going - Meet each others families - And above all Don't complain about another person to anyone else except that person. How can a project manager be sure that he or she has chosen the correct metrics to assess project performance? Asked by John Crow - Mon Aug 13 00:34:59 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There is many possible correct answers. Some solutions like PRINCE2 stresses the business case, and your metrics would then be set to measure only towards achieving the business case. A similar approach is followed in programme management. It does not allow for micro-management (which is the way I like to do things in any case) and manages by exception. Q. I'm doing a project about the evolution of man, both physically (think Darwinism) and culturally (think religion and inventions). This is a high school project that is about an hour long. I was just wondering if anyone had any creative ideas and activities that could get the class involved and make the presentation more fun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
