Tax implications of offering commissions to users that generate leads for my website?
Q. I run a site and I wanted to know if I offer commissions to users of the site that referrer other people to subscribe to my site and I offer commissions to the people that brought in the new users, what are the tax implications? Do I need to create 1099s for everyone that I paid during the year or some other type of tax form?

A. You need to get W-9s from each payee. If they are a US citizen and give you their SSN, you don't need to file the 1099-Misc unless the payment is $600 or more (they still have to report the income). If they don't give you a valid SSN, you have to withhold 28% and send that to the government--and as soon as you withhold even $1, you have to issue the 1099-Misc. If you think they aren't giving you an SSN because they aren't US citizens, then the form is the W-8Ben, the withholding rate is 30% and you issue a 1042-S at the end fo the year.

Is being a redneck a good quality?
Q. I have a friend who referrers to herself as well as members of her family as rednecks. She has no problem saying this to me and I am black. At times I feel a little uncomfortable, because of my own interpretation of what a redneck is. If she calls herself this in front of me (black as I maybe) then maybe it isn't what I thought it was?

Why do people try to shift thier responsibility... Please read on?
Q. I asked a question a while ago about our societies responsibility as far as those that we consider to be monstrous, responsibility as far as their creation. Only a few people answered but the majority of them tried to return the blame squarely back to the person. They, it seemed, totally rejected any personal responsibility for anything to do with any action that could have contributed to the creation of those that are considered monstrous. Why is it that we as a society referrers to shift blame from ourselves, when it is clear that if we have done something or nothing in the formative years we are directly responsible for what results, and place blame on the person by saying that they have free will? Is it not a cheap lie that we tell… [cont.]

A. This is an awesome question! Know why? Because there isn't a clear black and white, right or wrong answer. It's a very hot issue that evokes strong emotions on both sides. For the most part I agree with you. By "responsibility as far as their creation" do you mean someone's parents, or at least their main caregiver? I'm guessing you meant the person who influenced their upbringing the most. True, we/they/them, whatever, will always try do what makes us feel better, not necessarily more righteous, but whatever would get us through the horror of having someone so "monstrous" as you say, so close to us. I think it's more an individual response as opposed to putting a blanket label on society as a whole. What I think is more harmful… [cont.]
